I am a Paranormal/Fantasy Adult Romance Author

I’m twenty-nine years old. I am a Navy Wife and a mother of two. My daughter was born December 4, 2010 and my son was born July 18, 2013. My husband and I have been married for almost seven years, but we have been together since our junior year of high school and we have known each other since 8th grade, yes a long time.

I am a Florida girl at heart, but since getting married I have lived in Washington, South Carolina, and our latest move Connecticut. I hold a B.A. in Multimedia Journalism with a minor in Political Science from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.

Writing is something I love and since I am blessed to be a stay at home mom I thought I would try my hand at getting the stories in my head out and see how far I could go. I tried a few years ago to go through a Literary Agency, but it went nowhere. The self-publishing market was just starting to get hot so I self-published two books mainly for family and friends. I then discovered the world of New Adult. I wanted to stick with my paranormal roots and began thinking up story ideas that took on not only a paranormal element, but a fantasy element as well

My Motto: Not your average Fairy Tales

So, that is me in a nutshell. I am a little crazy and simple and I love my life and my family.

Review: The Edge and I by Tonya Thomas

Boxed set of five of Tonya Thomas’s women’s fiction short stories.

Amy Reynolds thought she had a great boyfriend, until one by one all her freedoms began to disappear. When her job is threatened, Amy decides it’s time to become more independent. But that’s not how her boyfriend Brad feels. He’s likes things the way they are and will go to any length to keep it that way.

Emily as always had a problem with her weight. Yo-yo dieting was something she’d accepted as part of her life. But when an opportunity arrives to expand her horizons, she leaps at the chance. That brings her a new income source and a chance at love. But when her new significant other plots to keep her fat–and unattractive to other men–she objects. And then she meets a man with the ability to sweep her off her feet. Will she give up everything she thought she wanted or will she cling to the vows she made when she said “I do”?

Jennifer has always been a wallflower, so when Mike Palmer flatters her—and asks her out—she feels on top of the world. But Mike’s a sports nut, and soon Jennifer feels like she’s playing second fiddle to every sport televised. Her ultimatum has Mike reconsidering their relationship. Soon their dates are fun and fulfilling. Without telling a soul they elope, and then Jennifer’s problems really begin when she discovers the man she thought she’d known is almost a complete stranger.

One hot September afternoon, Annie Henderson’s life changed forever. That was the day she was raped. Nine months later, she gave up the daughter she’d conceived on that terrible day. Forging a new life was difficult, but Annie had a successful military career and then had a family. Life was good, until the daughter she gave up reenters her life, and threatens to ruin it forever.

Erica came from a large family and always had to work hard for everything in life. Then she met Donovan Whitmore—the man of her dreams who could give her everything she ever wanted. Only … it turned out Donovan worked just as hard as Erica—-maybe harder. And then everything she always wanted wasn’t nearly enough.

Life isn’t easy and it damn sure isn’t always pleasant. Unfortunately there are situations in life that are difficult to deal with and these stories address some of those situations. Abusive relationships, jealousy, poor self-esteem and self-worth, being victimized in one way or another… these things are all very real and even though they might not be the light-hearted musings that many people prefer, it is sometimes good to reflect on these stories.

Thomas’s stories are terribly realistic and powerful. And while every single one could be drawn out into a longer piece, each still manages to tell a complete story with enough detail that you feel the power behind the words. These women could easily be a friend or family member and it hits you right in the gut that there are women who live lives just like these.

The stories are well written and even though they are brief, you get a feel for the main character and understand the troubles she faces. These are not stories for the faint of heart; there is an amount of violence against the women-abuse, rape, etc. and even though a lot of happens off stage, there are some gritty scenes present in the tales. I give this collection 9 out of 10.

Review: Melodies by Pamela Srey

Seventeen year old Bianca Grey had a not so usual teenage life. Adopted with an abusive foster mother and unpopular at Philadelphia High School, Bianca found peace with her artistic talents. Pete Carrara Jr., had a different life. He was popular in school, musically talented with good looks and brains. Pete had the ideal perfect life with the perfect family and friends. Love had never crossed his mind until one day when he ran into Bianca. That very day, he thought love to be very possible.
Bianca was guarded and had never let anyone get close to her. No one knew she was adopted, not even the school. The more Pete got to know her, the more he fell in love with her. Bianca was not so certain on how much Pete should know about her personal life but the more she learned about Pete, the more she cared for him. With him, her complicated life wasn’t so complicated anymore.

Their young romance blossomed through the difficulty of a drama filled high school and a series of mysterious killings in the city. But just when Pete thought that things were perfect with Bianca, her past surface. Can their love overcome the scariest reality out there, the so called life?

First off, let me say that I do enjoy reading books from the YA and NA genres even though I rarely feel a connection to the characters. I was not a normal teenager, so I really don’t get the whole teen angst that permeates so many of the books in these classifications. Generally, when reading these genres I stick to the sci-fi, fantasy, or paranormal books simply because I find them more enjoyable- it has to do with my obsession with literary analysis via Joseph Campbell’s hero cycle more than anything. (Yes, my inner scholar is rearing her head again.) That being said, I have to say that this book was absolutely incredible. I cannot find anything in this one that would make me inclined to give it less than a perfect 10.

Even though it gives off the vibe from time to time, it is so much more than a story about two young people from opposite sides of the tracks. The story explores the development of a relationship between two individuals that are so much more than the stereotypes they originally represent.

Bianca is the good girl- she is quiet, smart, and the perfect student. Her world is very limited because of the circumstances of her upbringing and the profound effect it has had on her development. She doesn’t see herself as pretty even though she manages to catch the attention of the hottest guy in school. She favors jeans, tees, flannel, and her Converses to the fitted clothes and heels so many of the other girls wear.

Pete is the bad boy- he is cute, rich, and can charm the pants off any girl he wants. He has the money and freedom to spend his time as he sees fit. He goes to the bar on school nights and hooks up with random college girls. When he sets his sights on a new conquest, he never hears the word no. He’s the type of guy who is perfectly content to take his pleasure where he can and not worry about calling later.

These two move in entirely different circles and the likelihood of their paths crossing are less than zero when a strange twist of fate brings them face to face.

The development of love between two younger people is often hard to accept. So many people think that people under a certain age cannot possibly understand what love really is. The author touches on that very thing fairly often with respects to Bianca’s feelings for Pete. She knows she cares about him, but she doesn’t believe that she can call those feelings love. Now Pete on the other hand knows he is head over heels in love pretty much from the get go. I honestly have to side with Pete but when I was young, I myself had Bianca’s attitude.

(Now this is where my personal experience comes into play and shadows how I view the story. I started dating my husband when I was only seventeen. The way Pete and Bianca are with each other reminds me of what my husband and I shared all those years ago. And after almost eighteen years together, I can say without a doubt that young people can and do find enduring love. Call me a hopeless romantic, but I have high hopes for Pete and Bianca.)

I like the way the author depicts the characters. They are complex and the important ones grow and change throughout the story. Other character change as well, some of them deteriorate becoming a much more shallow version of the person they once were. Much like real teens, they are all trying to find their niche in life. I believe that those we interact with help shape the person we become- one life can have a profound impact on another and I think the author explores this concept beautifully.

The story was well written. It flowed naturally and even the most mundane scenes kept me riveted. I wanted to know the details of every day they had together, even if it was nothing more than stolen kisses between classes. Nothing felt forced or fake in the plot and there were unexpected elements that left me wondering just where the story might be heading.

It was a powerful and emotional read. There were moments of tenderness and love but also uncertainty, suspense, anger, and jealousy. I cannot think of a time in my adult life I have been so moved by a story like this. I look forward to more from this author and hope that she plans to tell more of Bianca’s story.

Still covered in duct tape, he turned on his side to face me, his flesh straining against the binds. “You would tell me if something were wrong, right?”

“What do you mean? Of course, I would.”

“So, if you knew something could happen to you, you’d let me know.”

Where was he going with this? “Yes. Nothing is going to happen to me. Well, unless the Twelve get ahold of me. Other than that, I should be fine.”

He nodded in thought.

“Reyes, what is it?”

“I think you keep secrets from me.”

“You keep secrets from me,” I said, teasing. “Seems only fair.”

He leaned forward and nibbled on my ear. “We can decide who gets to keep secrets and who doesn’t later. Until then, want to do it?”

“Reyes!” I said, appalled. “You just had your arm nearly ripped off at the shoulder.” That and the fact that a grown man asking me if I wanted to “do it” was hilarious.

“We can still do it.”

I giggled. “No, we can’t.”

“I’m very creative with my mouth.”

“I am well aware of that.”

“You should sit on my face.”

A bubble of laughter escaped again. “I am not sitting on your face. Oh, my god.”

“Just sit on my face. I’ll make all your dreams come true.”

“You really need to practice humility,” I said.

“Humility is overrated.”

Review of Dylan Hart: Not All There, The Box Set by RM Gilmore

OCTOBER BOX SET EXCLUSIVE – Just in time for Halloween

For a limited time, snag the first three novels in the Dylan Hart series plus a bonus short story! *BEST DEAL!*

*Irreverent, twenty-something journalist, Dylan Hart, is not your average heroine. With a big butt and an even bigger mouth, she has her work cut out for her when she decides to cash-in on the blood-drained bodies of seven prostitutes scattered throughout southern California.

With her best friend in tow, and two contrasting boy-babes at her heels, the crew is pulled into an all too real sanguinarian lifestyle and dragged them through a bloody good mystery. Horrible pun intended.

*The graciously irreverent heroine, Dylan Hart is at it again. With a couple of headless corpses under her belt, Dylan’s crunchy exterior has reached maximum density. In The Big Easy, surrounded by ‘vampire’ elite, Dylan finds herself entangled in the underground world of blood and magic at the Endless Night Masque de Sang.

When a chance encounter brings a fascinating woman into her world, Dylan is forced to sift through fact and fiction to uncover a much more frightening villain. Voodoo. Who do?

SACRIFICE *Amazon Occult bestseller!*

*Dylan Hart has found herself in quite the conundrum. Locked in her apartment with an unknown voodoo beastie hot on her tail, she’s ass deep in death and it’s knocking down her door. Literally.

With no other choice but to return to New Orleans and the source of her torment, Dylan is faced with an opponent she may not outlive. Survival becomes key and anything else, like sanity, can only be a hope. Before the day is done, death will take over and nothing will ever be the same again.

NOT-SO LOVE STORY (Box set exclusive short story)

*Dylan Hart isn’t good with her feelings. Detective Michael Petersen is no exception to the rule. Take peek behind the scenes with Dylan’s telling of a not-so love story. A tale of love that proves happy endings are for amateurs.

Wow! Where do I begin. First off, I will tell you that this is not for all audiences. If you have a problem with foul language or violence I wouldn’t suggest venturing into this one. There is also some minor sexual content as well. Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, let me get down to the meat of this one.

This is a box set that includes the first three Dylan Hart novels and a short story that gives insight on the past of Dylan and Mike. Given the brilliant execution of the stories, the wonderful style and the perfection of the characters, I have to give this set a perfect 10 out of 10.

The first book, The Scene, starts with bizarre murders taking place in California; bodies are showing up naked and drained of blood. Most of the victims are hookers and transients so they don’t mean much in the grand scheme of things but Dylan Hart is hoping that a little investigation will help her come up with the material to write a book and alleviate her financial woes. Of course when bodies are drained of blood, who better to question than those that live the sanguinarian lifestyle.

This book was very different from any other vampire murder mystery I’ve ever read. Instead of either exposing or accepting the existence of the undead, the characters strive to find the individuals guilty of the crime, never once believing that vampires exist. Dylan and her friends bumble around the scene, trying to figure out what would drive someone to not only drink blood, but kill for it. I truly liked the premise of the story and I loved the way that the author kept me guessing. As a paranormal enthusiast, I was ready to accept that the killer was truly a vampire but the author had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what truths Dylan was going to uncover.

I also want to note that I enjoyed the asides where they discussed how Dylan could work certain elements into her book. The scholar in me enjoyed the cleaver commentary on the conventions of mystery novels. Other elements that spoke to my inner nerd were the interaction and dynamic between the characters– There is her model perfect best friend who has her unwavering loyalty.and the underwear model who she is inexplicably drawn to despite the fact they both embody all the accepted societal standards of beauty that make her feel inadequate. Then there is the overbearing ex-boyfriend who struggles with his need to protect her while giving her enough space so that she knows he still loves her. These relationships exhibit the strength and depth of Dylan’s character and establish the potential for the series.

In Endless Night, Dylan is back and this time she is rubbing elbows with the elite members of the vampire community in New Orleans. After what happened in California when she was investigating the bizarre murders, Dylan has decided that instead of true crime, she’d much rather publish a work of fiction based on ‘lifestyle vampires.’ In order to get as much authentic information as possible, she accepts an invitation to travel to a summit in The Big Easy with her best friend, Tatum, Tatum’s beau and Primus of Southern California, Malcolm and Malcolm’s flunky Cyrus. Of course, New Orleans is the hub of everything supernatural and Dylan’s life only gets more complicated as she takes in all the bizarre the city has to offer.

I have to say, this book is amazing. I absolutely love Dylan. She is foul-mouthed and often reckless but she is also tenacious and strong despite her perceived imperfections. In this installment, we get to learn more about her background and it gives more depth to an already wonderful character. Dylan is real and gritty and I honestly cannot get enough. I am intrigued by the way Gilmore portrays a world that is so fantastical but also realistic at the same time. It creates a dynamic that is so unlike what you see in most paranormal books. Dylan doesn’t swoon around the bloodsuckers like her blond bombshell of a friend. No, like any good skeptic, Dylan is always looking for the smoke and mirrors instead of just accepting that the impossible may be anything but. This one left me wondering how her latest adventure would impact her outlook on the occult and had me dying to find out what kind of trouble she’d get into next.

The last book in the collection, Sacrifice, picked up where book two left off. This installment was much more intense and even more compelling than the others. Dylan has been through a lot since she first decided to investigate the novelty of the sanguinarian lifestyle. Now she has to face that fact that the occult is more than a load of crap and there are people out there that wield untold power and they want her to pay. Traipsing back and forth across the country, Dylan has one thing on her mind- stay alive. Follow Dylan as she tumbles down the rabbit hole and into a world that exists adjacent to our own but is full of things that go bump in the night.

I cannot get over the amount of power this series has. It is intriguing and completely addictive. The first book had me hooked but by the end of the third, I am past the point of no return. I will gladly follow this roller-coaster to the very end. There is no mush-gushy that you find in so many other books of this nature; it is raw and holds absolutely nothing back. Dylan is a character that you want on your side when the shit hits the fan simply because she refuses to give up. Her need to survive drives her through an action packed adventure where she is ass deep in a terrifying supernatural world. This is a no-holds-barred type of book that will drive you to continue reading through to the end and it will leave you begging for more.

The last story in the collection is an exclusive short that focuses on the failed relationship between Dylan and Mike. You get to find out how the pair got together and you get to see the ugly end to their relationship. Getting the scoop on all that transpired between the two makes you appreciate the relationship they had in the novels.

Review: Fashionably Dead by Robyn Peterman

Vampyres don’t exist. They absolutely do not exist.

At least I didn’t think they did ‘til I tried to quit smoking and ended up Undead. Who in the hell did I screw over in a former life that my getting healthy equates with dead?

Now I’m a Vampyre. Yes, we exist whether we want to or not. However, I have to admit, the perks aren’t bad. My girls no longer jiggle, my ass is higher than a kite and the latest Prada keeps finding its way to my wardrobe. On the downside, I’m stuck with an obscenely profane Guardian Angel who looks like Oprah and a Fairy Fighting Coach who’s teaching me to annihilate like the Terminator.

To complicate matters, my libido has increased to Vampyric proportions and my attraction to a hotter than Satan’s underpants killer rogue Vampyre is not only dangerous . . . it’s possibly deadly. For real dead. Permanent death isn’t on my agenda. Avoiding him is my only option. Of course, since he thinks I’m his, it’s easier said than done. Like THAT’S not enough to deal with, all the other Vampyres think I’m some sort of Chosen One.

Holy Hell, if I’m in charge of saving an entire race of blood suckers, the Undead are in for one hell of a ride.

“Uproariously witty, deliciously provocative, and just plain fun! No one delivers side-splitting humor and mouth-watering sensuality like Robyn Peterman. This is entertainment at its absolute finest!” ~ Darynda Jones, NY Times Bestselling Author of the Charley Davidson Series

What a way to start a series! Robyn Peterman sets up a brilliant story that chronicles the misadventures of Astrid, newly turned vampire, as she tries to figure out her life. Thankfully, she doesn’t have to go it alone. She still has her BFF-who has no problem with Astrid’s status as one of the undead. She also has a foul mouth angel guide with a knack for creating inventive pet names beginning with ass and a fashion challenged fairy who serves as her trainer (he may look and fight like the Terminator but he dresses more like Richard Simmons). Throw in her attraction for a very sexy but dangerous vampire and the mystery of the little monsters that live on her ceiling and you understand why this is unlike other vampire stories.

I will say that I loved the complexity of the story. Peterman gives us all the details that are important to understanding the world she has created. Even though there is a lot going on with the story, all of the events are connected and it is obvious that every minute detail is critical to understanding the story. The characters were very well crafted; they were hilarious and genuine and there was such wonderful chemistry between them that I felt more like I was watching a movie rather than reading a book. I honestly couldn’t put this one down; it kept me riveted and was a major contributor to insomnia due to binge reading.

This book is a perfect 10 out of 10 in my book and I look forward to seeing just where this series goes. A few disclaimers-

  1. There is plenty of foul language.
  2. There are some pretty steamy scenes and some serious sexual tension.
  3. It does end on a cliffhanger so be prepared to give in to the impulse to buy the sequel.

So if you are in the market for a great, paranormal book with a healthy dose of both steam and snark, you should really check out Fashionably Dead.
